Hot Water Burns like fire PDF Print E-mail

Every day more than 3 children under 5 years of age present to a hospital emergency department in Queensland for the treatment of scalds - mainly caused by hot tap water and spilt drinks and food in the home. Reduce the delivery temperature of your tap hot water to 50 degrees C and keep tea and coffee out of reach.

If a burn does happen run cool running water over the area (while keeping the person warm) for at least 20 minutes. Call 000 for all serious scalds especially one involving young children.

Kidsafe advises all flood-affected child restraints be destroyed PDF Print E-mail

PRESS ALERT! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 21/01/11

Flood-affected child restraints potentially dangerous

Kidsafe Queensland recommends that contaminated child restraints – baby capsules, toddler seats and boosters – be discarded and replaced.

Contaminated fabric and webbing may be difficult to clean effectively.  Chemical disinfectants and bleaches cannot be used as they damage the webbing and compromise the safety of the restraint.

Chemicals in the floodwaters may also damage the webbing and compromise the safety of the restraint.

Small metal components may eventually rust and compromise the safety of the restraint.

Therefore Kidsafe recommends that contaminated child restraints – baby capsules, toddler seats and boosters – be discarded and replaced.
